Even with sales, it's not the same. If there's two competitors, and one always gets 50.1% of sales, while the other always gets 49.9% of sales, the one that got 49.9% will pretty much be as powerful as the company that is doing slightly better. But if this were a Democracy, then the competitor that gets 50.1% will always "win", which means that the forty-nine point niner will always "lose", making said competitor totally without power or importance.
