you are probably correct - the differences in productivity as measured officially is mainly due to hedonic indexing which the US BLS uses extensively, thereby distorting reality to an incredible extent. note that the manufacturing of the very devices (i.e. PC's, mainly) that are the supposed drivers of productivity is what gives the productivity stats the biggest boost. regarding the dollar, the privilege of issuing the world's reserve currency has been abused to no end, as every person with only a shred of common sense could have predicted. it is masking inflation, via the importation of deflation from goods producing countries all over the world.
