It will be extremely difficult for Throughbred to match
Northwood

Huh? Not true in SPECint. First, the results Elmer showed us
are for an i850 RDRAM system, which is now almost impossible to
find. With DDR, I'd expect the results to be about equal in
SPECint. Second, TBred is supposed to have additional IPC
enhancements and I expect that the MHz ramp for TBred will
more than match the Northwood until the end of the year.
After all, the SPECint for AMD's best 0.18, the XP2000+ is
697 and the SPECint for Intel's best 0.18, the P4-2000 is
behind at 640, even using RDRAM.

I agree that SPECfp is a lost cause until Hammer; this is
mostly due to the compiler and SSE2, which AMD won't
implement until Hammer.

SPEC numbers from Elmer's post:
SPECbase INT FP

XP2000+ 697 596
NW 2.0A 735 744 +5.5% +25%
NW 2.2 786 779 +12.8% +30.7%
