Well, the MCPs aren't for "intelligent toasters", they are too expensive. It's more for high end, tiny cellphones, where space is at a premium. Even with Alchemy, AMD won't be positioned for the mass market, or at least for a while. But this is the beginning of the golden age of embedded. System on Chip (SOC), has finally reached the practical stage, you can get reasonably powerful SOCs that cost just a few bucks. They aren't the most powerful chips, but...

There are plenty of potential markets for the ALchemy chips. They have to get away from their focus on Internet appliances though.
