No, they're not always the same. "Midterm" is a misnomer in some respects. The period for it is only slightly greater. The big difference is that it uses another formula. Sometimes that formula is more helpful in identifying turning points. While the ST one might say 0, the MT one sometimes has a way to go before touching 0, and it often pays to wait for it.

They are often (OK, nearly always) the same, because while the period is greater, upper and lower thresholds remain the same, because the highs and lows are the same in both periods.
