I remember Lawrence of Arabia. Great movie, never read the book (Seven Pillars of Wisdom). Saw the movie again within the past few months. Remember the scene with Claude Rains telling Peter O'Toole that the Arabs really were not going to get their land back, and that he was lying to them? Can't remember exactly how it went. The fight against the Turks was co-operative, neither could have won without the other.

Nadine, the Bedouin who fought with Lawrence of Arabia "had" the land in the sense that they were living there, and they had tribal self-government. But they were not the ultimate ruler, the ultimate ruler was the Turks.

Remember the scene where Omar Sharif shoots one of Lawrence's escorts because he is drinking from Sharif's tribe's wadi? Even though they were nomadic, they had property rights.

And not all were nomadic.
