Widely recognized and discussed since at least 1996 and 1997, respectively.

The company is a leveraged little biotech mutual fund, with earnings. It's been way too richly valued for my taste (they sell stuff, yech!). But this is absurd.

You hit the issue on its head. In my mind this behavior itself is not so bad. ELN ends up with stakes in a JV and/or a biotech company (usually has options for either/or). But the misleading that was done (either by accident or intentionally) burying a lot of the activity in the Interest (net) and other line is the disturbing part. I did not become aware of the true magnitude of all this until I read a NCB report late last year. I knew what was going on - just not that steps taken to obfuscate the numbers. Even still, I bought thinking the reaction (before today) was overdone. Oh well. Live and learn.
