To add to what Dennis said, quite a few fairly recent vintage printers will never have drivers designed to function fully with Windows XP. Most of the printer and scanner manufacturers have stated that they don't plan on issuing new drivers for older hardware. My HP 722 and an Epson 640 will function but won't have all the bells and whistles such as banner printing functions. Before upgrading or buying a new XP computer you must visit the manufacturers website for the info. One positive....with the price of printers these days it is not a big purchase item if you just need the basic home printing setup. I was in Sam's Wholesale a few days ago and they had printers which I'm sure will do a better job than my two year old $200 printers can do for #29.95.
