Arrested Man Spoke of Bush Daughter
March 2, 2001

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

F ORT WORTH, Tex., March 1 - A Texas Christian University student who described himself as a boyfriend of President Bush's daughter Jenna was picked up by Secret Service agents after his release from jail, a sheriff says.

Sheriff Dee Anderson of Tarrant County was quoted today in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the student, William Ashe Bridges, who was arrested and issued a citation on suspicion of public intoxication on Sunday, was later allowed to make a phone call that jail officials believed was to Jenna Bush and her Secret Service escort. "A few minutes later, a black Suburban and some Secret Service agents showed up" at the jail, Sheriff Anderson told the newspaper.

Mr. Bridges, an 18-year-old freshman, was arrested at a private residence near the university. Robert Cloud, a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission sergeant, said officers received complaints of loud music and beer bottles.

A Secret Service spokesman, Tony Ball, would not comment today. Noelia Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for Laura Bush in Washington, also said, "We're not making any comments about this incident."

Ms. Bush, 19, is a freshman at the University of Texas.
