Osama bin Laden engages in terror, not because any member of his family was killed, but because of an Islamicist ideology that interprets the ill- fortune of the Muslim world as result of Satanic influences, and attributes to the chief status quo power a unique role in the evil which has befallen the Muslim cause. He engages in acts of terror because he thinks that the United States is a paper tiger, that can be easily nudged to panic and chaos, because he thinks that Allah is on his side, and because he can get away with it. We attack him to make it harder for his organization to operate, and also to show that his tactics are futile, and to breed doubt that Allah is on the side of terror. Yes, there is a possibility of sowing the seeds of vendetta. But that is outweighed by the effectiveness of dealing a severe and decisive blow to what is, after all, already a relentlessly hostile foe.......
