Amkor's Q4 sales jumps 5% over Q3, but Q1 could be sluggish Semiconductor Business News (01/30/02 17:34 p.m. EST) siliconstrategies.com CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Amkor Technology Inc. reported sales of $352 million for its fourth quarter ended Dec. 30, up 5% sequentially but down 45% from the like period a year ago. The company also posted a loss of $137 million, or minus $0.85 per share, in the quarter, compared with a profit of $41 million, or $0.26 per share, for Q4 of 2000. Its assembly and test revenue were $297 million in the quarter, compared to $529.2 million a year ago. Wafer-fab revenue was $55 million in the period, compared to $107.7 million a year ago. For 2001, Amkor had sales of $1.52 billion, a 36% decline from 2000. Its net loss was $451 million, or minus $2.87 per share, compared with a profit of $154 million, or $1.02 per share, for 2000. "While 2001 marked the most dramatic downturn in the history of the semiconductor industry, Amkor enters 2002 with a clear growth strategy and in excellent position to capitalize on a broad range of growth opportunities as economic conditions recover," said James Kim, Amkor's chairman and CEO. The company also expects "the first quarter to be impacted by seasonally lower business activity combined with an unusually short Q1 manufacturing calendar that includes both the Lunar New Year and Easter holidays." First quarter assembly and test revenue may be flat to down 5% from the fourth quarter, with wafer fab revenue up slightly, the company said.
