Yes. Hyperthreading can yield a tangible improvement in applications that are already multithreaded. Even higher is possible in finely tuned apps. The caveat to Hyperthreading is that certain apps may not receive a benefit, and if the OS isn't aware of threads that run tightly closed loops, Hyperthreading can get lower performance than if it were turned off. The solution is to have the Operating System insert Pause or Halt instructions on such threads so that they don't monopolize the CPU's resources. You can get a lot more information on this by looking at Intel's web page.

IMO, the Anandtech benchmark that loads and times his web database will get a significant improvement due to Hyperthreading.
