Taiwan spectrum auction update -

web3g.dgt.gov.tw

==========

3GO (with possible Q backing) now controls 900mhz cdma2000 assigned license E.

APBW, who has controlled license E the majority of the auction now controls license D (licenses A-D are 1900mhz, assumed or required to be wCDMA flavor).

==========

Superficial observation would suggest that the specific license - and cdma2000 vs wCDMA designation - is of secondary concern to 3GO and APBW....

Are there obtuse strategies at work?

GPRS = IS 95B, no value added. Every operator in the world outside of Korea skipped the intermediate speed upgrade from 14 kbps to 64 kbps. Why should carriers support GPRS ahead of WCDMA? It makes no economic sense for them to make a large investment in GPRS subsidized handsets for users that will be looking for higher speed handsets next year.
