Not only didn't JFK not accomplish anything, he was a complete failure in domestic and most especially, foreign policy.

The Soviets saw him at Vienna, high on "Dr. Feelgood's" speedballs and they knew he was a lightweight.

Kennedy put the US on the nuclear brink at least three times.

People remember him fondly because of the Kennedy PR machine and the historians for hire like Schlesinger. THe biggest reason was because he was killed.

Few remember Kennedy was killed when polls showed Goldwater might beat him in 1964. Kennedy was not so popular until he was gone.

The true tragedy of the assassination was all the bad legislation that flowed afterwards. Johnson probably did more damage than any other prez of the 20th century - it took decades to overcome all the bad he did.
