OT: Of course I have my biases, but they're as transitory as a stock market swing.

Actually, I work hard to discern between my liberal democratic upbringing, my working poor experience that gives me populist leanings, a constant exposure to military minds and concerns, and pretty good instincts that often serve better than the rational mind where conflict is involved.

Pure objectivity is almost impossible, but sedating my knee jerks gets me a little closer to the center where the view is clearest.

I hope, in some small way, to help achieve a more civil world for my children and all children, especially. That doesn't mean I am non-judgmental and forgiving; it just means if I see a crack in the ice of a relationship between two hostile nations that are frozen by bias, I'm gonna try and light a match there to see if any thawing can be obtained.

The same holds true in a debate between individuals that sometimes get locked in by bias, even though both may demonstrate exceptional intelligence and the capacity to aim higher... a little match sometimes provides light.
