>> Not everyone shares the same morality, though <<

of course not. but differing moral opinions don't always deserve equal standing, now do they? after all, osama bin laden doesn't share our view of morality, correct? he believes that we are immoral, ungodly, satanic, evil-doers who have the audacity to kill our own innocent children in the womb. he rejects our version of morality, and uses that to justify his own twisted version, which in his mind includes killing us.

now you don't share bin laden's morality do you? i assume you reject it, as have the vast majority of americans. now i'm sure there are hundreds of millions of muslims who agree more with osama's version of morality than ours. since it appears that we will never agree with these people should we just drop the issue and sweep it under the rug? most americans would say absolutely not. they are in favor of our government and society making a judgement saying we reject this evil and therefore we are going to do everything in our power to fight it. yet these same hypocrites do everything in their power to stop any discussion or debate of abortion. "we'll never agree, so let's just drop it". obviously the issue troubles their conscience and they are trying to turn their back on what they know is wrong. if abortion is absolutely, completely, moral and not wrong, how come so many women struggle with the issue? how come so many become depressed after killing their child? what's depressing about a woman asserting her right to exercise freewill over her body? abortion should be a celebration of women's progress, right?

what if osama and other muslims said to us what pro-abortion people say to me? "let's just drop it, we just happen see things differently." "you're annoying me by going on an abortion tirade." "shut-up, no one wants to hear it." i attempted to point out this very hypocrisy just a few months ago. many on this thread were (rightfully) condemning the acts of terrorism. when i shifted the focus to terrorist acts committed by our own government people were livid. they accused me of blaming the victims of 9/11. they just couldn't understand why i wouldn't join in and hold the terrorists 100% responsible. they couldn't understand why i wouldn't say that the victims of 9/11 were 100% innocent and didn't deserve what happened to them.

yet when i say that unborn children are just as innocent and don't deserve to have their life snuffed out any more than the people in NYC, people get all upset and accuse me of trying to stir up trouble.

let's replace the evil of abortion in place of the evil terrorist attacks on 9/11. there are people like myself who believe that abortion is a pure evil attack on innocent life just as the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were. we don't believe that abortion is just a matter of differing opinion--we believe it is inherently evil. just as most americans have rejected the notion of terrorism as an evil act of atrocity, so do opponents of abortion. just as americans have vowed to fight with all their might to stop the evil of terrorism, people like myself fight with all our might to bring to light the evils of abortion.

so, getting back to your original statement.

>> Not everyone shares the same morality, though <<

somehow i think if we were discussing the evils of terrorism, and i took the side of the terrorists, you would be annoyed with me. somehow i don't think you would take the cavalier attitude, "well, craig. i believe that the terrorist acts on 9/11 were just plain evil, but i understand that maybe you don't, because not everyone shares the same morality, though" that's precisely why i have no qualms about making taking a strong stance on abortion the way you have no qualms about taking a strong stance against terrorism. i don't feel the need to qualify my opinion about abortion by pointing out that "not everyone shares the same morality, though", just as most people don't feel the need to qualify their opinion of terrorism.

here is a more eloquent and thoughtful version of what i am attempting to point out.

Legal kill
worldnetdaily.com

We have adopted a language of euphemism to disguise this evil, just as some call terrorists "freedom fighters" and speak about their "action" against the United States. Similarly, we speak of the "right to choose," without ever naming the choice. Thus we avoid the simple fact that abortion is the deliberate taking of innocent human life.

Osama bin Laden chose to kill those whose lives, in his fanatical and puritanical view, don't have the spiritual and moral quality that justifies their existence. The abortion choice denies that the unborn life in the womb has the quality which demands our respect. And in each case, once it is decided that certain people need not be respected, the door to killing is opened wide.
