Makes me a little frustrated that some parts of yurope drags down the perfect 100% of Finland to an youropean average incredibly below that, but unluckily USA is still far behind, close to zero That is, me too remember the times when "free operator handsets" were brought back to Finland with a good gray profit, and how the same operators tried to force Nokia into not servicing those numbered handsets, not an warranty nor in any way, although that didn't work. (well, some then insisted on special operator locked handsets, which would not even accept another SIM card, if one wouldn't reprogram the handset, also a good gray business) In terms of GPRS I'm kind of impressed with the strategy of the finnish operators - one with automatic activation when the handset is detected on the network, and some SMS messages to congratulate on the new possibilities, plus automatic setup through another SMS message. - another one with a monthly fee, need for activation, but unlimited usage after one has figured out what it means. Additionally they still play some games on costs when calling the same network or other networks (international roaming is a real problem, but easier to solve for data than for voice) but it is only a matter of time until EU makes them agree to even have transferrable telephone numbers. (some operators already offer free SMS messages to all buddies about the new number, but one still have to personally edit the number and name combination) Ilmarinen PS As a scandinavian I am almost ashamed that Ericsson-Sweden still offer these "free" phones, but now they have to inform their suckers that the handsets are actually leased and specify under what conditions of the contract, how to terminate, etc (lots of quacks in the bay when it turned out it was cheaper to buy the handset and then pay less per minute and month, quack-quack)
