"And re the education results-vs-funding matter"

An amusing story by my neighborhood Palestinian deli owner, whose kid goes to the same school as mine. He walks into the school and sees "a sea of desks for the administrators! In my country, we had one desk for the administrator and the rest of the building is for students and teachers !"

He hit that nail on the head. Without real leadership, the funding simply gets sucked up by administrative types, who are all whizzes at justifying themselves, rather than the value-creating teachers.

In one county of Sonoma, California, there are 41 school districts, each with their own supervisor, and a gorgeous multi-million building to house their meetings and support staff, in a county of 350,000. Similar-sized counties around the country have ONE district and a single supervisor.

Gee, that sounds familiar. Happens every time DOD wants to close bases.

I'm not sure what's going on in the States along this line, but there are some not so funny things going on with the US facilities in Europe. They are closing at least one US facility that is no longer necessary and having to pay [by prior agreement] the host country to close them. Then the some of the same military people who were involved in that decision, are proposing a new facility with the same mission [and expanded] 100 miles away in the same host country. It's not that the former facility is old, or has old technology...it's re-organizational chaos. IMO, the star that wants a new facility, should get one...I'm thinking the new facility we have in Cuba..put him in charge of that one.

And re the education results-vs-funding matter: My wife served on a local committee several years back that did a study on this. I'll see if she still has the report. I remember that the conclusion was that there was no correlation.

[I read the posts between you and MSI on education]

So what they heck are we doing..giving money to States for higher performance when there is no correlation to performance. We [the Feds] give them money with strings and they manage to reallocate funds so they can increase the Administrative staff.

Screw 'em.
