Intel(R) Compilers for Linux and Performance Libraries Immediately Available On Silicon Graphics 750 System for Linux

Friday February 1, 2:30 pm Eastern Time

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SGI (NYSE: SGI - news) today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to redistribute Intel's suite of compilers and performance libraries for the Intel® Itanium(TM) Processor Family. The suite includes C++ and Fortran compilers and math kernel libraries, which can be used to develop applications for the Itanium architecture. SGI will immediately offer the Intel Software Development Products for purchase on the Itanium-based Silicon Graphics® 750 system for Linux®.

The complete set of compilers and libraries and tools will also be supported on future Itanium-based systems from SGI. The Intel compilers and tools complement the SGI product line by offering convenient, one-stop shopping for SGI high-performance computing (HPC) customers writing applications for the Linux platform based on the Itanium processor.

``SGI is very pleased to offer our HPC customers the opportunity to develop Linux applications on the SGI's Intel Itanium-based platforms,'' said Ben Passarelli, senior director of product management, SGI. ``The core tools provided by Intel and the CPU power of the Itanium processors are a complement to the SGI Linux 750 desktop system architecture. Application developers seeking to create robust, high-performing applications can rely on SGI's domain-specific knowledge, consulting and applications tuning experience to achieve new levels of open-system performance.''

``This agreement marks another step forward in our companies' multi-year relationship to deliver the power of the Itanium processor to the HPC community,'' said Jon Khazam, director of Intel's performance tools operation. ``Compatible with tools developers already use, Intel Software Development Products are the fastest and easiest way to take advantage of performance features in the Itanium processors.''
