A few observations on the SPX:

First, the lower broadening top trendline stopped the decline at 1180 yesterday:

It also may have a down channel forming with a parallel upper trendline.

Second, if I remember E&M correctly, when a broadening top breaks (when it went below 1114 in this case), it often rallies back into the pattern before turning back down in earnest (see figure 87, Air Reduction Co.). FWIW.
