Hi Phil,

I have an unlisted, unpublished telephone number. I don't give it out easily, especially not to retailers. Ever! The retailer doesn't pay for my telephone services. I do. And the retailer has no business whatsoever asking for it. I politely decline when asked, and if pressed, I not-so-politely decline. (I have been known to make an embarrassing scene when required.)

If you were running a store and refused me a valid refund/exchange because I wouldn't divulge my name and telephone number, I'd sue in a NY second... No fooling... It's not up to the customer to provide the retailer with a way of keeping the employees "honest". That's not a customer responsibility. And you'd never see me in your store again. And you'd also likely find yourself on the local TV news as an irresponsible retailer. I'm pretty vengeful once I get a bee in my bonnet... <g>
