A retailer should have a return policy posted that describes the conditions on which they will accept a return.

Most will not give you any money back unless an auditor can confirm if the refund was legit.

I would agree, a small item like a light bulb should be able to slip thru the crack, but auditors are so picky, a clerk could lose their job over a .99 light bulb.

You simply need to see both sides if the coin, my friend.
