Mephisto,

Re: As far as deceit goes, W's is on par with Nixon's
lies about the Watergate affair.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if Dubya's obvious corruption and self-dealing rising to the level of Nixon's abuses of power. I see Dubya as much less capable, much less paranoid and much less sinister than Nixon. Dubya just wants to use the office to enrich himself and his friends. He is easily dismissable as merely venal.

In what sense, having read my views, would you see Dubya on an equal scale with Nixon?

Surprisingly, he still can do a good job of getting photo opps in front of admiring audiences for media distribution that seem to be genuine. Of course, they are completely staged, by-invitation-only affairs. So the people are left in the dark as to the view on the street.

I'm going to be interested in resolving the cognitive dissonance I feel when I hear that Bush's approval rating is still over 80%, and yet, 60% of the electorate think that Bush is hiding something on End Run. I don't approve of people who I think are hiding the truth from me. Is this something that most Americans can accept? They are a mob, I know, I know. <g>
