Not much, anyway. There is always a political dimension to these things. The opinion of the rest of the world matters. Whether they stand aside or intervene, the extent of the intervention, and the way in which different countries take sides will determine the outcome. Of course, anyone who challenges the international system overall is doomed to failure, because the dominant powers will be against him. Hitler lost because America entered the war, and because he turned on Stalin.....
