With such a focus on integration, it’s no surprise that application networks or information hubs—where information is being delivered across different platforms and channels—are gaining in importance. Consider that almost all large enterprises have IT departments that comprise literally hundreds of systems and applications. Paring down those systems and then integrating the remaining components is something that Siebel Systems’ (SEBL) senior vice president of technical services, Steve Mankoff, is anticipating. “People are going to move to what we call an ‘application network,’ where there’s basically going to be an application hub or highway that all of the different components—software solutions from different vendors, in-house software solutions, and legacy systems—are going to be plugged into,” Mankoff explains. The idea is to be the open component that makes that connection.
