It appears the rhetoric is carefully orchestrated. There is something going on among those parties that the administration wants stopped. Bush seems to be being positioned as the hawkest of the administration. If I were a diplomat in these times I would like to have that perception available to me in my efforts to negotiate a stand-down of aid to terrorists. IMHO

Michael you already know my viewpoint

A quick example - after 911 the Al Qaida terrorist numbers were described as a couple thousand or a few thousand. In the State of the Union address Bush said tens of thousands. Yesterday on the road he had backed off to several thousand(Must be that fuzzy math thing ;-)

As a practical matter for the thread - it was speculated on the news last night that GW is building a case for his budget - due on Monday or Tuesday. If this is ground softening for the budget then we may be at risk of an adverse market reaction?

(PS - sorry I haven't responded to your PM - nieces wedding this weekend, the relative parade has begun)
