Well my professors always said to keep your eyes and ears open, and to look for smoke while doing an Audit. The point was to question facts as they arose. Perhaps the problem is that the tunnel vision of accomplishing a technically correct audit has outweighed the common sense directives of objectivity. And this is relevant to John's thread. The implications of a tightening of Accountancy Standards and public reaction to such may have tremendous effects on the market. Are likely to have far greater impact than the terrorist attacks of September in the long run. The profession has screwed the pooch. The sooner its admitted and dealt with the better.
