Thanks for pointing out the LA Times article. My blood was only on a simmer before that. <gg>

There was an interesting tidbit on NPR's "Morning Edition" earlier today. Competing with the World Economic Forum (or, Masters of the Universe do New York), there is a vastly more humane gathering going on Porto Alegre, Brazil, the Forum Social Mundial, or World Social Forum:

NPR interviewed one participant down there, who pointed out that of the four recent neo-liberal (Latin America's term for free trade) Presidents to serve in Latin America (including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and ???) all left office under a cloud of controversy over their corruption. It seems that 'free trade' and corruption are synonymous terms. Who knew?
