Lunacy is letting the government spend that same money at their own political crap table, namely pork for their own political gain. Understand that the so-called social security lock box contains nothing but iou's. Only a fool would have any confidence in the system, especially if the economy doesn't recover to a rapid rate of growth. Get ready to pay higher taxes because politicians don't have the guts to tell people they won't provide for them, knowing full well it's a lie.

I think allowing folks to invest a small portion of their social security money in the investment vehicle(s) of their choice is an acceptable idea, but letting them control all of it would be lunacy, only because some folks are just not good at handling money....
