OT: It's not Columbia, Afghanistan, Myanmar or Mexico, but it's about their exports -

Pearly,

The problem that we have now is that the DEA bureaucracy is so entrenched and self-sustaining that they will block any sensible change proposed by wiser heads. They got a racket going, and they aren't in the least interested in getting away from the trough. Wackenhut also sees the present system to be in their self interest, and they're a pretty powerful lobbying force. Not up to Enron standards, but not slackers, either.

This is exactly the same nonsense as trying to repeal the Volstead Act. It can't possibly happen on this watch, but if the present administration stays the course, the American economy will be totally on the rocks by 2004 and we'll have a groundswell of change like in 1932, when a lot of pent up changes got effected.

If the US Government were wise, they would have one or two families a day interviewed on video camera or TV, or C-SPAN, and have the members of the families of the drug/alcohol tell their stories. EVERY DAY! There are literally millions of people who are affected and effected by the drug problem.

People could eventually realize just how much drugs cost, in personal economic terms, in human emotional, physical, and financial cost, and in community property and emotional damage.

Perhaps then, other World leaders, those that are truly interested in their people, would do the same thing.

Water on stone. Eventually we could make a dent in this human tragedy called drug use.
