Alan,

I know how you feel about that, been there... But I firmly believe there are way more people regretting that contribution of knowledgeable traders diminished. I hope one day you decide to scoff at jerks and reconsider your current stance.

Trader Alan:

If you let them muzzle you, then they win and will go on to attack some other knowledgeable person like yourself.

I know there are hundreds of people like myself that got a lot out of your thoughts, but failed to thank you.

I will rectify that mistake on my part. Thank You Alan and please keep posting.

Don

I have a lot of respect for you as a trader and thinker, TA. From our limited correspondence, I even got the impression that you were a generous guy with a good sense of humor, and, as a writer myself, I never held the fact that you wrote trading books against you - to the contrary, I think much of your work is terrific. Ditto in re: lectures, web sites, columns, whatever. I realize that the trading biz is susceptible to all kinds of hucksterism, but, all the same, why should traders be any less interested in side-businesses and extraneous self-enrichment than, say, doctors, lawyers, political consultants, construction engineers, wine connoisseurs, or dog breeders? And why should traders be any less "permitted" to write about or otherwise "exploit" their lives and work than anyone else?

All that said, if you re-read and reflect on your post, I think you might realize that it comes across, to be frank, as, well, kind of weird. You have "no other outlets," yet you deny them them to yourself because you see "[W]ithholding [your] contribution" as "the only way" to "get even" with "jerks" and "idiots." As if the "jerks" and "idiots" are really hurt? Seems to me that you'd be hurting only yourself and the people who appreciate your work.

I have no idea what kind of strange messages or attacks or whatever you've endured, but, I mean, it's just a bunch of trash pixels attached to pseudonyms... I guess I can understand why people get so sensitive about this stuff, invest it with "reality," but doing so seems even more pointless than worrying too much about all the flesh-and-blood jerks and idiots in the 3-d world.

Alan - You're the psych major, you know that's retentive, not to mention avoidant. Just get SI to give you a new handle and come roaring back as a sociopath. Jerks only give you a hard time because you're a name. What a great game that would make! Is that new poster TraderGengis really Alan? Nah, he's too mean! - Mike
