There are bits and pieces of information on the web that indicate they may have been planning this for quite some time. I read or heard that the new PM of Afghanistan used to work for Unocal or the company who had been negotiating with the Taliban to build the pipeline.

The new PM's brother lives in FRemont Ca and I heard him interviewed on the radio a few weeks ago. His brother was not overly enthusiastic about the new PM....he said he hoped that his brother could put the benefit of Afghanistan before all other personal desires. At the time I was a bit un-nerved by his words.........I am now beginning to understand why. Let's hope the country does recover.

If a pipeline does go in and allows gas and oil to go to Pakistan and India then we will have some serious competition for natural resources. IF the standard of living for India should rise to a level remotely close to ours.........the population numbers alone will drive us to a confrontation over access to the resources. As the primary users of the earth's natural resources, we probably won't want to share. We will help with the reconstruction for selfish reasons..to control the flow of natural resources through Afghanistan. JMHO
