You're certainly entitled to propose a somewhat different scenario, which apparently suggests sharp downside action into 2003. My main point actually was that those who expect an immediate and substantial downside reaction because of high valuations are disregarding the history of these things. Regardless of the specific scenario you envisage, history shows us that high valuations do not lend themselves to precise prediction. Sometimes they persist for years, sometimes they bleed off slowly (as I'm suggesting) and sometimes they drop quickly and dramatically.
