My only real fear is that people without firewalls enable hackers to jump their machine and IP addy. They keep jumping till they have enough of a trail that can't be followed then attack their targets. Usually you are not the target. Just a stepping stone.

Lonnie Yes, IMO you need a firewall, especially if you have an always on connection like DSL or cable. You may not think that you have anything of value that someone would want to steal but believe me when I say you do. It may not be probable but it is possible that someone will hack their way into your computer and gather any information on it. Passwords, credit card info, personal emails, address, etc., etc. If you trade online do you want someone to have your account #? Do any online banking? You run a high risk of someone planting a trojan horse program on your machine that will allow them to control your machine and use your computing power to launch attacks on websites and businesses using your IP address. An especially nasty guy might just delete system files and make your computer unusable. You may well get lucky and never have a problem but is it worth the chance? Do yourself a favor and help others on the web and all the folks in your email address book and install a firewall. tc :-) disclaimer: all this is just my opinion...others may not think it is that important
