When did they state that? Do you have a link? " Where did AMD say that? Why..on their web site, of course !! Do I have a link? Of course - right here: "AMD plans to introduce its first MirrorBit-based, 64-Mb Flash memory device, the Am29LV640M, during the first quarter of 2002, "amd.com The AMD MirrorBitâ„¢ architecture is a breakthrough in Flash Memory cell architecture that offers customers a low-cost, high-density Flash Memory solution. This architecture doubles the storage capacity of a Flash Memory device without compromising its endurance, performance, or reliability. MirrorBit technology provides superior reliability, while maintaining complete pin-compatibility with the AMD family of standard 3.0V devices (Am29LV). Customers can thus easily migrate to MirrorBit devices without redesigning their systems. The patented MirrorBit technology is the result of years of research and development on the design, processing, testing and characterization of multi-bit cells. MirrorBit memory cells, which store a full charge in each of two physically distinct locations, offer many advantages over Multi-Level Cell (MLC) technology, which stores fractional levels of charge in one location. Since each bit in the MirrorBit memory cell is physically in a different location, the bits are independent and do not interact with each other, allowing AMD to offer the same performance and reliability as standard single-bit Flash Memory products. The MirrorBit architecture also overcomes the inherent reliability issues, slow random access and long programming times of MLC technology. AMD has planned a family of products based on the MirrorBit architecture ranging from 64-Mbit through 1-Gbit. MirrorBit devices will feature a write buffer that allows significantly faster programming than today's fastest Flash Memory products and a page read buffer that allows page mode access times as fast as 20 ns. AMD plans to introduce its first MirrorBit-based, 64-Mb Flash memory device, the Am29LV640M, during the first quarter of 2002, with the 256-Mb Am29LV256M to follow in the third quarter of 2002.
