to be fair, AMD's K7 project slipped only by two months, which was pretty good at the time

Did AMD actually have a K7 schedule? All I remember was the introduction months before actual shipments.

Ten, >Tony, to be fair, AMD's K7 project slipped only by two months, which was pretty good at the time.

Maybe the last 4 months of it. AMD, and other companies, are guilty of bumping schedules out a little at a time. They nickel and dime you to death. Also, Jerry and Hector's immediate response to a major milestone question is always "it's on schedule". Well, everything can't be on schedule. Then next month it's moved out. Just my observation, and if AMD did what they said they were going to, Intel would have had a rougher time.
