Thanks, hadn't seen that. It sounds like ole' Yasser is getting desperate enough to rev up the old Oslo speeches again. Of course, I'd have to hear this in Arabic to believe he actually meant a word of it. Arafat's last Arabic speech, just a few days ago, praised the Palestinians as the people of a million martyrs, and called for jihad, jihad, jihad! But then Arafat was always good at talking peace in English and jihad in Arabic. This business of Arafat's deploring terrorists has worn a little thin. More than half of the actual bombers and gunmen have been on Arafat's direct payroll. I read this as a sign that the combined American-Israeli-Egyptian-Jordanian pressure is really intense, so he's trying to appease everybody with words. The usual pattern.

Interesting op-ed by Arafat. Not likely to play in Peoria or anywhere else. No mention of the Karine-A and a continued insistence on 1967 borders and the right of return. He claims he wishes to negotiate as equals. Can anyone name a single concession the PLO has made? Oh yeah, they claim they'll grant the Israelis the right to exist. Something he refutes when giving out backdoor speeches to his people. Treat us as equals and we'll negotiate your right to live again? To Arafat I say: stop treating the world as if we're all morons.
