Prophiteer, Do you really see the memory collapse as driven by MU's manipulation? Here I thought of it as a massive inventory glut that started with sdram and spilled over everywhere when the business planners in all of pc/comm/network land screwed up their projections massively for 2001. This was a collective screw-up by the bean counters everywhere. Also this is not the first bust in the memory boom&bust cycles. While it is true that the demand for ddr has gone up, don't forget that the price delta for chips->dimm was up much more. The gouging is at all layers of the food chain. Players such as mushkin and the retailers are taking advantage of this, not just the memory makers. Supply will compensate, or demand will shrink. I think supply will move first, since prophiteering is a well understood noble motive by taiwanese and europeans and americans alike. But be realistic, when I first read of this bet, way back, I already thought, when you wait long enough, all things shall come to pass. This price parity is a short term illusion. Surely you don't really believe that the rimm sticks inventories are still being maintained in the retail side? All throughout this rmbs thing, quite a few people besides me always said the same thing, when it comes to truth about rmbs : It's very easy to know : walk into the whitebox shops and ask. Think of it as cheap DD. But others less savvy than you chose to take the bus to travel up and down and wallow in the Nile instead. SbH
