Actually, I am surprised at the wave of compassion for our own Muslim population here in the US after 9/11. The number of hate crimes, was IMHO, extremely minimal. Quite possibly, we as a nation are called to obey higher standards as well, and we do it willfully, because that is the way we are. Great nations can and should be "generous". We erred during WWII with our citizens of Japanese descent and have learned our lesson.

Yes, reading the 'puzzlement' article again, what I am really picking up is disappointment that September 11th didn't work the way bin Laden thought it would -- to make the US withdraw from the Middle East and change its policy in the Arabs' favor. Apparently bin Laden was not alone in thinking that such an attack would make us run. You really would expect US-based diplomats to know better.
