There have been random attacks against people who looked like they might be Arabs, but I was not surprised at the efforts to prevent them. The American people have been taught to pride themselves on being a melting pot nation, and are not about to abandon that because of a temporary setback. We have also been taught to live our lives according to principle, and while we obviously fail in that at times, it remains ingrained in us as a goal.

All IMO, of course.
