twfowler, re: There is no gun show loophole. While technically correct, it does create an organized location for private gun sales. It's private gun sales that allow about half the guns to make it into the illegal trade. I have no issue with making the folks I buy/sell a gun from/to submit myself/themselves to a NICS check. As long as it doesn't add to the price of the transaction. The government already knows I have about a dozen rifles and handguns, so knowing I have more doesn't really matter.
