Do we know what "3G" multimedia services are out there and to what degree packet data services (as opposed to new features like color displays) have contributed to the replacement of IS-95B phones with 1xRTT models and to what degree the APRU has increased as a result of 1xRTT customers as opposed to IS-95B customers now that packet billing is in place?

Do we know what plans and tariffs are in place?

It appears that each and every Korean sub with a 1xRTT phone is being counted as a 1xRTT sub.

What percentage actually use 1xRTT packet data services?

We actually do have the answers to most of those questions....SK Telecom/KT Freetel give pretty detailed quarterly reports.

The latest quarterly data should be coming out in the next couple of weeks. If the past trends of increased data ARPU are continued, I think we can start to reach some conclusions about the effects of color screens and packet data on wireless data. The one previous unanswered question was if the rises were simply a result of early adopters....with 4.2 million 1x subs, it can no longer be called a niche product in Korea.

Check this:

sktelecom.com

and this:

ktf.com

For the KTF site, go to the "Fact Book" where you'll get lots of figures. I understand that KTF calls its 2.5 G service "magic" so drill down to its figures. I know you can do it.

Both have the number of content providers listed.

There is no comparison. The Koreans with 1x beat the Finns and their GPRS like a drum. I thought everyone knew that. Why the discussion?

All of the information you're looking for is admittedly difficult to obtain. Here's a snippet. If you want more, send me to Korea. vbg
