Sony's Idei sees Y150-160 to dollar
Monday, February 4, 2002 at 09:15 JST
NEW YORK — Sony Corp Chairman Nobuyuki Idei said Sunday he thinks the Japanese currency has been overvalued and he would not be surprised if the yen — which trades at around 130 yen to the dollar now — falls to the 150-160 yen range.

"A weak yen is the only effective (economic stimulus) measure. The yen has long been overvalued," Idei told reporters. He defended the weakened yen which he said has brought "lots of economic benefits," including cheaper costs for many Asian debtor countries that have borrowed money from Japan and manufacturers that buy Japanese industrial parts.
