Hi ilmarinen; As far as my experience, US life insurance policies will pay off in the event of suicide, provided that the suicide was after 1 or more year after taking the policy.

But if it were the case that the insurance companies didn't have to pay, my guess is that you'd see far more "official" suicides, rather than less.

As far as the planet's standard for investigating crimes, I think that the industrialized world's standards are still far better than the rest. It's a matter of money.
