Your highlights are a good attempt at dramatic affect. I see you are learning the techniques of a good rejoinder. However, I would like to point out that the following quote is a very well know accounting practice called mark to market: "As a result, subsequent to fiscal 2001, we may recognize in earnings declines in fair value of our publicly traded equity investments below the cost basis that are considered to be other-than-temporary". It's nothing out of the ordinary and it happens more often than you might think. The only thing eyebrow raising nowadays is the quantity of marking to market going on at all companies with sizeable investments. They are having to mark those investments to market, because well, the markets have gone down and it's not likely they will recover any time soon to the levels we saw in 2000.
