> the Enron mess has been a bonanza for GATA

It is terrible (evil?) when folks take advantage of the misfortune of others for their own benefit. After 9/11, there were many fake charities raising money, and now there is a firm striking medals containing WTC steel, selling them for $50, and only donating 10% to charity. I guess that it capitalism.

Reminds me of South Africa's problems, which GATA used as an opportunity to go there and lecture them that all there problems were due to the "gold cartel" and raise some money in the process. Of course, simple answers do not explain complex problems, but they raise $$. Meanwhile, the rand has since collapsed due to macroeconomic problems, government, etc... That's OK, GATA got some contributions and is long gone, RSA problems are still there.

It is also most unfortunate Enron employees and stockholders are suffering, but it make for a exciting story and a great fundraising opportunity. Please ignore the fact that Enron's off balance sheet debt financing and accounting were the primary reason for their downfall. Their derivatives operations were viable and profitable, with the energy trading group sold to UBS Warburg and metals trading to Sempra. Let's comapre apples-to-oranges, Enron-to-Barrick, it's all the same thing, no need to do the reasearch, we have ALL the simple answers, so send us contributions. Most offensive.
