Eric, It might be a good reason for every house and apartment have a gun. fewer break ins if the perps knew there was a gun ready in every house?
Same with cars, we would be more polite if everyone in a car was mandated to carry a handgun. :).
Of course we would then get some "Billy the car" characters.

I can't really disagree with anything you say in that post, but I would note that even the evidence like that from the UK crime statistics, while fairly solid, doesn't ammount to a controled experiment and cannot discount all possible factors so that even people who will not ignore it (like most gun control supporters would) have wiggle room to say it doesn't prove anything. And there right that it is not "beyond all reasonable doubt" proof, but with public policy we usually have to just go by the best information available, its rarely "beyond all reasonable doubt" quality, but this is not a court of law.
