It is my impression, that although an unsavory character, his emphasis was to prevent a "Jewish" State in Palestine and after being exiled out of Palestine for fomenting violence against Zionism, he appealed to the Nazis and Fascists.

He did more than appeal to them, len. He raised two divisions of Waffen SS troops, broadcast for them, spent the war years in Germany, worked for them openly and was a most enthusiastic supporter and participant in implementing the Final Solution.

As for how he got away, how did Eichman get away? Lots of Nazi war criminals got away for various reasons. In the Mufti's case, he made it to Paris, and the French weren't enthusiastic about handing him over to the British, since they were mad at the British. So they let him go free, knowing he would make himself a headache for them again.
