KLP,

As you may or may not be aware, the United States is the stingiest of all the OECD countries in regard to foreign aid, on a percentage of GDP basis. By an order of magnitude from several countries. We are correctly viewed by the world as a cheap, selfish bully.

Far from hoping capitalism unravel, it is my great hope that the harsh amoral "survivor of the fittest" mandate of capitalism can again be tempered with reregulation to ensure the basic decency of our system. Unfettered capitalism would be a disaster. But no capitalism would be far worse.

Re: You sound positively gleeful when you mention that "capitalizm" (your spelling) might be unraveling....

Are you?

My position is that there is a religion of "free trade" and deregulation that is an Orwellian bit of double speak covering the basic nature of what is being demanded by the manipulators who hide behind these seemingly innocuous and positive words. What is really being asked for is a lack of accountability for corrupt practices. That is the aspect of "capitalism" that needs to have a stake driven through its grasping, amoral heart.
