It was pitch black in the water. Well, DUH!

Scallops? I don't remember seeing any I have friends up in Juneau, AK who would go out for scallops in Gastineau Channel. Great story, one Christmas Eve they sailed down to the "grounds" and it was minus five degrees fahrenheit. They felt relief jumping into the seawater, which was a much more temperate 37 degrees.

I was basically just wondering if the Puget Sound area had scallops. They do fine, or did until too many trawlers destroyed the beds, off the coast of Oregon.

Re: The boat broke down though on our way home. (LOL)

You too, huh? I've had a couple of breakdowns that were no laughing matter. One up near Decatur Island in the San Juans and one outside of Juneau. A real hopeless feeling in a low freeboard boat and a big sea swell.
